To solve everyones questions on sleeping pad, hygienes, drinking water and
water for cooking the answer is clear.
Carry a water bed and fill it up each night. You now have all your drinking
water you'll need, enough for everyone in shelter to bath, ample supply for
cooking lavish dishes and of course a comfortable sleeping pad.
Do you recommend filling the waterbed with filtered, or unfiltered water?
FILTERED WATER IF FROM A UNTESTED SAFE SITE
If you use filtered water, what brand of filter do you recommend?
I WAS STATIONED ON THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS YORKTOWN CVS-10 FROM 1965-1969
AND SHE IS NOW A MONUMENT IN CHARLESTON, S.C.. MAYBE THE YORTOWN
ASSOCIATION WILL ALLOW ME TO BORROW THE PURIFING SYSTEM FOR A THRU-HIKE?
SHE'S DECOMMISSIONED NOW SO THEY HAVE NO USE FOR IT. WE USED TO DESALINATE
OVER 60,000 GALLONS OF WATER EACH DAY AT SEA. IF YOUR EVER IN THE CITY OF
CHARLESTON, S.C. A TRIP TO THE USS YORKTOWN CVS-10 WOULD BE ENJOYABLE.
THIS FILTER MAY WEIGHT MORE THAN MY 8 OZ PUR PIONEER SO I'LL HAVE TO MAKE
ADJUSTMENTS IN MY BACKPACK.
SECOND THOUGHT IF ANY OF THIS YEAR THRU-HIKERS WANT TO USE THIS SYSTEM FOR
THIS YEARS THRU-HIKE DROP ME A LINE.
Also, do you know a good source for ultralight waterbeds? What does yours
weigh? Oh, and is that weight filled, or unfilled?
THEY HAVE SEVERAL MODELS OF WATERBEDS NON-BAFFLED, PARTIALLY-BAFFLED AND
FULLY BAFFLED. AT THIS TIME I DON'T HAVE THE WEIGHTS FOR THEM. WHEN I DO
I'LL BE SURE TO SEND THEM TO YOU IMMEDIATELY.
THE WEIGHTS WOULD BE UNFILLED AS IT WOULD BE OBSURD TO CARRY ALL THAT WEIGHT
IN WATER. SOMETHING LIKE THAT COULD GET ME REMOVED FROM RAY JARDIN'S FAN
CLUB FOR SURE.
HAVE A GOOD ONE JIM.
