You could do it a lot cheaper, but if you have $3,500, I say, go for it. You'll
have a great time.

 You COULD get all the way to Katahdin in 4.5 months. But don't rush. Enjoy this
 wonderful trail and the people you will meet. Explore the mountains, the
 flowers, the fungi, the bugs, the trees, the wildlife ... enjoy the folks on
 and along the trail, and the mountain towns, take time to chat with the hostel
 folks, and the trail side business folks. Katahdin will remain there for as
 long as it takes for you to visit.
