Some of each-if you want to train for hiking, go hiking. Load a pack, hit the
hills. If you have no hills, try the park, stadium stairs, staircases in
tallish buildings, any where you can get both ups and downs with weight on
your back and boots on your feet. Runners, even in great aerobic condition,
soon find that hiking and climbing works entire different muscle groups.
