I guess my experience with buying alcohol in the Middle East is different
from yours.

Okay, it wasn't beer, but the best price I've _ever_ seen for Glenfiddich
scotch was US$5.85/liter in Dubai (way cheaper than I've seen it anywhere
else, including Britain).  I triple-checked the price because it was so
extraordinary.  I'd have bought a case if I hadn't been headed to
Egypt...

Arrived in Egypt only to discover the African Ministers of Information
who were staying at my hotel had drunk the hotel dry of foreign beer
on Mohammed's birthday :-)
