I can't say for march but I have been in the N Ga mountains every weekend
since October, and I carry less than that. This weekend I was at standing
indian and this is what I had.

lightweight REI thermal underwear(MTS or something)
nylon swimming trunks
50/50 cotton/polyester t shirt
Mt Hardware wind bloc lightweight jacket
Polartec 200 fleece jacket
REI elements rain parka and pants
wool hat and gloves

Now I am not a thru hiker so then this may be totally wrong, but it has
worked well for me on 2-3 day trips.
