[at-l] re: tent questions / swift

bert -

just bought the swift for use as a 1-person-plus-dog tent, or
two-people-in-a-pinch AT thru hiking tent. like it very much. easy to
pitch. one peg in back, two in front. fly attaches with clips to the pole
grommets, stakes out in back with one and in front with two (minimum pitch
requires 6 pegs). has one of the best weight/room ratios. 3.5lbs for
minimum pitch. fly opens to the side instead of down the middle, so given
proper situation in relation to the wind, fly can be tied open and still
leave most of the vestibule dry. (good for cooking in your bag!) no
experience yet in really bad weather. i know two that did the pct in 96
with excellent results.
