[at-l] Cell Phones -- Perception

>'...I voted to have a new tower erected on the
site in Hot Springs of the former Center for Appalachian Trail Studies, and
to have someone count the number of times MacKaye wrote about "wilderness
preservation," OB tells Felix.

So how many times did MacKaye write about wilderness preservation? It must have been an enormous number, seeing as how he founded and worked on behalf of the Wilderness Society for much of his long life. One should not assume that Mackaye's message ended with a brief piece outlining a new idea in a regional planning magazine, devoted to a single restricted audience. That would be as foolish as assuming that one could judge the total life interests of a physician based on a single medical journal article. Mackaye promoted and expanded his ideas in hundreds of letters, publications and talks continuing over many decades.
