[at-l] Cell Phones -- Perception

So how many times did MacKaye write about wilderness preservation? It must have been an enormous number, seeing as how he founded and worked on behalf of the Wilderness Society for much of his long life. One should not assume that Mackaye's message ended with a brief piece outlining a new idea in a regional planning magazine, devoted to a single restricted audience. That would be as foolish as assuming that one could judge the total life interests of a physician based on a single medical journal article. Mackaye promoted and expanded his ideas in hundreds of letters, publications and talks continuing over many decades.

Why are we so worried about MacKaye, anyway, when he wasn't even the one who put the trail on the ground? All he did was Think. Were it not for Myron Avery, the trail would still be a magazine article. What did Myron Avery think about the way things should be done? He was a man of Action! He did the real work. Don't pick the philosophy of the trail to death. It means nothing without action. This internet community does a fine job of balancing hiking, trail maintenance, service on boards, donations, and other trail-related intentions. Don't let one or two nay-sayers get you down or get you flamed up. anklebear
