This can be circumvented by telling the salesperson that you want to wear 
them from the store and then put your street shoes in the box to take home.  Of 
course, this is very bad behavior but I have bought shoes that I wanted to wear 
out of the store; however, I have never needed (nor would I do so) to mix the 
sizes.
