I have no experience sleeping under a tarp, so maybe you'll
need to educate me here... but I see two problems (at least)
with the statement above..

-- how will a tarp protect you from bugs?

-- how will a tarp protect you from ground water if it rains?


Furthermore... what is it about the AT, per se, that recommends
tarps over tents?  Very curious...
