I agree with your impression about the allusion. I also suspect the death 
was similar to the death that begat this thread: parents sometimes do 
stupid things that get their children killed - or worse. The instrument 
used in the stupidity is often just a distraction from the issue of adult 
responsibility.

I think there might be more safety features available on a jet ski, ATV, 
bungi jump and most amusement park rides than on a 600 pound multibarrelled 
machine gun. I'd probably find the gun safer than a lot of the farm 
equipment I've been around in my youth - although I was lucky enough to 
survive with most parts intact. I question the judgement of anyone allowing 
either their child or their gun to be misused in such a fashion, just as I 
would question the judgement of anyone taking shots at sounds they hoped 
would be a deer.
