[at-l] OT - LOTR

Orange Bug Wrote:

............It is surprisingly well done. Orcs, trolls and other
bad
guys don't quite fit my imagination......

I absolutely agree! It was almost perfect (excepting that the
hobbits feet were a bit too large and flopped when they
walked....but
who's that much of a detail freak to notice such a silly thing?)

.............but everything else works pretty well........

Even the things they did wrong worked pretty well, no clumsy
ad-in scenes to bitch about.

...........with female characters really not getting the
attention
deserved........

I was extremely disappointed with the substitution of Arwen for
Legolas in the flight to Rivendel. Arwen is, without doubt one
of the
coolest chicks ever to walk, but she does not belong in that
scene.
(the subsequent wraith chase and river crossing were also made
wrong)
(why not introduce Legolas at the right time, race to the river,
and
battle the wraiths the right way?????)
(various other bitches can be taken for granted as I wouldn't
agree to
anything less than "exactly as written")

............Those unfamiliar with the Hobbit are going to be lost
the
first time they see it, and should go with a Registered Tolkien
Guide.

I don't really agree here. It's a good movie all by itself and
perhaps people who've never picked up the hobbit will do so
because of
the movie. However, it that same person wanted the movie to
teach them
all about the history of middle earth, they're out of luck.

...........And whoever summed it up as "it keeps building up to
something and then quits" had the movie down perfectly, which is
exactly
what the book does in Volume 1.

Exactly right. It ended just exactly like it should have.
