[at-l] any forestry people out there

hello all,

there is a saying that the worse day on teh trail is better then msot days
at home and it made more sense after i got off the trail. i am stuck in a
office like job for the first time in my life. previously i have been a
clerk and glorified clerk and a lawn mowing weed wacking bog trimming plant
watering tulip planiting tree digging kinda guy. even drove a hay ride for
kids and sold christmas trees(ah stoking fires and hot cider and numb
fingers that is the life). this computer job i have is the pits.

i went into computer thinkign i would be able to get a programmgin job.
programing in C or assembler doign some drivers or some low level fun stuff
(i do really enjoy it i even do it in my free time ... righ t now i am
makgin a mouse driver <noise whips cracking "mush mush">) but those jobs do
not exist it seems...only web "programming" and data entry with a bit of
programming and boring piles of paper work and rolls of red tape reachgin to
the Moon!

i have not been goign outside as much as i like recently cause i have a
cubical job for the summer. being at a educational crossroad in my live due
to a few things happening recently. (long story)

i was wnodering if any of you people out there on this list are forestry
people. i am a computer scientist right now and have come to decide I HATE
CUBICALS and in some odd way dilbert is the profit of the new society. and
i hate that. offcie = bad!

i am still thankfully in school anyone know how to switch to become a park
ranger or some other outdoorsy thing.... fire prevention tower watcher hot
shot. park ranger mountain rescue. i am in maryland are there any schools
in maryland that can advance my forestsry career how to i fidn out what i
need to get into forestry i have looked up the usjobs.opm.gov page and such
things for gov jobs. i am currently workgin for noaa. heck i migh even
consider the fleet of NOAA as long as i get to be out doors working on
something... i apllied for forestry jobs for the sumemr and came up
completely dry. i applied for a few none fire fighting jobs in teh forest
service.

if you coudl email me or somthing i would love to tell you about the littel
i did and talk about how i am goign about it in the wrong way .. or even
better mayb ea good word for me in some place that coudl get me a outdoor
job. heck at this point i woudl even forlay school to get my foot in the
door for outdoor jobs

i might go crazy if i had to stay at this cubical job for more then the
summer!!! how do people do it. i wonder why i ever came home from the
trail. remember this all you hopefuls when youa re ont he trail in the rain
wiht a blown out boot and broken pack strap. and in water up to your knees
going down hill when the map says it is straight up knowing ever step down
means you need to take two more up. ah those were the days. beats plastic
smelling offices and whiring computers.

i want a job where you sweat and work with your hands and at the end of a
long hard day(or week) you can wash off the grim as some testiment to a job
well done!!! a job you can go to an not knwo what new thigns to expect and
all of it involves work. no sitting and reading manuals about linux!

wisperlight

the only noise more irritating then mositos in your ear is the soudn of 12
computers running on one room beeping and clacking.
