I do not often get into gear...but I just bought one piece of gear that I
can't wait to play with.. The SilNylon tarp from Campmor!  Man, is this
thing light, and folds up so compactly. Plenty o' room to rig up, and tie
offs to make the rigging easier.  I don't know, but methinks my pack
weight, before food and water might be around the 12 lb range!   Since I
converted to a tarp two years ago, I now find a tent too claustrophobic.
I also find I sleep under the stars more since I stopped carrying a tent.
 The big test will be when I finally get to use a tarp in a humid
enviroment, as opposed to the dry climate of Colorado. Rumor has it there
is a trail out West that goes through  Oregon and Washington...hmmm... :D
