[pct-l] RE: Muir Trail travel from San Fran

Unless something just changed, Greyhound does not
service the Eastern Sierra (Lone Pine) any more. They
stopped service in the area 4 or 5 years ago.

The 3-day a week service between Mammoth and
Ridgecrest is the only public transportation I know
about:

I am sure the JMT is great hike from either direction,
but I have always done it southbound.

It is easier to get permits from Yosemite NP, than the
Whitney Zone Lottery.

Access to frequent resupply and lower elevations on
the north half of the trail make acclimating to the
trail an easier adjustment in my opinion.

A Northbound JMT hiker would end up on top of Whitney
on day two of the hike which would cause problems for
those of us who are sensitive to high altitude without
a few days to adjust.
