Hiked north from Davenport Gap (actually I40) about 2 weeks ago.  Good
water at Sweetwater/Camp but slow.  Trickle at Groundhog Gap Shelter
with some one inch deep puddles (tie a coffee filter on the pick-up hose
of your filter).  Absolutely no water at Brown Gap unless you go a mile
or so to the right down the gravel road.  Supposed to be a campground
somewhere in that area.  Talked to a ranger and he said there was no
water for 2 days hiking north from Brown Gap.  That would mean dry until
Hot Springs.  Hope this helps some.
