[at-l] pain relievers, B vitamins

I am currently trying to thru hike the A/T. I've done 700 miles and had to
take 2 weeks off because of a shin splint. Of the hikers I've met and talked
with I would guess 40 to 50 percent take some kind of painrelievers routinely.
I personally took 2 aspirin every morning until I started to get spontaneous
nose bleeds and had to switch. The most common drug was ibuprofen. Instead
of the recommended dose of 200 mg. at a time, some would take 600 mg two or
three times daily. They realized this was excessive but wanted to feel better
now and worry about the side effects later.
Concerning the subject of B vitamins or brewers yeast to prevent ticks, I have
some knowledge about this since I am a veterinarian. Feeding brewers yeast to
a dog (or cat) is thought by some to prevent the animal from getting fleas and
ticks. There have been studies that show this is completely false, flea and
tick populations remain the same on the animal whether they are given even
massive doses of the brewers yeast. Of course, I had some clients that swear
once they started feeding the product their pet has had no fleas or ticks.
