Ryan -
I don't get much time to play on the list anymore, but I wanted to add
my thanks for keeping at-l online. If you hadn't, then some of us
wouldn't have anyplace else to go. And I DO read the list even if I
don't have time to get involved right now.

As Mr Twain once said: "The reports of my demise have been greatly
exxagerated". I'm 6 days from finishing this Masters degree, and I will
be back. And sometime very soon thereafter I WILL have some words to
say about the purpose, utility and subjects of "serious" topics on the
lists.

As for the lists (Wingfoot's or otherwise), I won't comment right now
except to say that the ONLY true thruhiking list right now is pct-l. At
one time at-l qualified and the results were that (as far as I can
determine) those of the class of 97 who were on at-l enjoyed a 40%
success rate. That's 4 times the normal success rate - success in this
case being defined as a completed thruhike. I'll make a prediction that
the class of 98 won't be as successful in those same terms.

In the meantime - have a good week.

Walk softly,
Jim
