thanks for all the help with my memory.  i finally dug out my map from 92,
and sure enough, the trail goes right over it.  i don't remember it.  it's
probably a combination of three things:  1) ginny and others mentioned it
wouldn't be so bad at the beginning of the day - i spent the previous night
at tray mtn, and only had a ten mile day to dicks creek gap, so i was fresh
when i tackled it.  2) i was more worried about my brother's knee at the
time, which had ballooned to twice its size the day before.  3)  maybe i
did blue blaze it like phil suggested - hey, that's not out of my realm of
possibility!  nah, i hadn't succumbed to the dark side at that stage...
