Only 9 people have been murdered on the AT since it's start in 1934.
Concidering the millions of hikers and backpackers that use the trail every
season the odds that you should encounter such a fate are very remote.
Infact it is probably more dangerous in your backyard than on the trail.
Since most hikers participate in their sport on summer weekends you are not
likely to be totally alone on a solo hike of the AT. That should be
reassuring, because if for some reason you should need help it is probably
just around the bend in the trail heading your way. I love to solo hike
finding the moments of solitude both exciting and calming. But it is also
fun to meet fellow hikers on the trail. I recommend that you pick a more
popular area for your first solo for just that reason.
	Have a great solo hike.
