[at-l] Beautiful days in So. PA

Spent Thurs - Sun on & near the AT between Pen-Mar & Pine Grove Furnace,
hiking & doing maintenance w/ the North Chapter of PATC. Wonderful
weather to be out in, a good flow of distance hikers all four days, plus
lots of others on Sat & Sun - *not* a wilderness experience, but a
pleasant time in the woods all the same.

A number of northbounders were doing mid-point assessments of their
hikes thus far. A couple of different folks expressed a feeling that
the hike was about to be over too quickly, like Ktaadn was just around
the corner. They were struggling to be here now. A couple of others
were New Englanders who were chomping at the bit to be up there, and the
easy terrain from No. VA to that point was helping them make the miles.
A few others had just started in Harpers Ferry or No. VA & so were still
feeling their ways into the rhythms of their hikes.

Also spent time with two Ridgerunners, Kenny & Whitney (Allgood of '96),
who felt like they had the best summer jobs in the world.

Even with all the folks out, I still found myself alone at a shelter one
night, and still found hours on other days to just sit in the sun &
watch the water flow in a stream, or figure out how a rhodondendron and
mountain laurel had grown completely together so as to appear as one
plant.

Hope ya'll had good weekends, too.
