last time I cooked in a small tent was in the mid 60's. I had
what was called a "mountain tent" (army surplus) made out of
some synthetic material. I had woken up before first light and
decided to make cocoa to warm me up. somehow there was suddenly a
ring of fire in the wall of the tent. I dove through the hole and
turned to see the entire wall disappear in a flash. Since no one
else was up yet, I just packed my gear, struck what was left of the tent
and made breakfast. then I went for a walk to warm up.
When the others woke I told them that I was up early because I couldn't
sleep. Since then I have been wary about using a stove in a tent I can't
stand up in. I have made a vestibule with a poncho or tarp and cooked under
that but not in the tent. If I am out for more than a few days and
tentage is the only shelter, I make sure that I have foods that go with
a "cold camp"
