[at-l] a question for those who quit

There has been a little discussion of the yearning some of us have to go
back to the trail, especially as March rolls around and springer fever hits.
For some of us a return to the trail, or attempting another long trail are
the only "cures" for the fever. When I finished the trail the first time, I
swore I would never do another long trail - but two years later I began
dreaming again, and four years later I was back.

My question is addressed to those who quit the trail, for whatever reason -
do you wish you were back there? Would you do it again? Will you do it
again? Are you glad you tried - or sorry? What long term effects has it had
on you?

We hear a lot from those who finished about what it felt like to climb
Katahdin, but what happens if you can't? I don't want to start another
flame war about the effects of quitting on an individual - since it
obviously is going to vary enormously from one person to the next, it isn't
something you can generalize any more than you can really generalize about
the effects of finishing the trail. Like all things, there is probably a
wide spectrum. However, personnally and individually, how did it affect you
- both in the doing and in the ending?

I would really like to know. Ginny
