i've never used a stephenson but from their reputation, if you can afford it,
go for it!  i think i would drop the extra bucks for the double wall
construction, though.  definitely.  according to the gear guide, condensation
IS a problem.  it's unusual for backpacker to say anything negative
(realistic) about products and that's one that i remember.

as for free-standing vs. non f.s., a free standing tent usually requires and
extra pole and therefore ALWAYS weighs more.  they're wonderful (i have a
free standing winter tent) but probably too heavy on the AT unless you have a
partner to help carry the load.  from what i understand, there aren't too
many problems finding non-rocky ground to drive your stakes into along the
trail.  at least, i sure hope not!
