Hmm, while an author can miss a speaking appearance for any reason
he sees fit it does seem unusual that the appearance would be missed without
apology or explanation. Especially when the appearance is for the foremost
group associated with the subject of his best selling book.
Weary is a well-intentioned person, but sometimes pushes the
believable with his attempts at smoothing things out. While I agree the average ALDHA
audience is pretty mild-mannered, there was clearly contention over his book.
There were difficult questions that were going to be asked. Maybe not a
hostile audience, but an intentioned one.
On the other hand Weary did do a good job in pointing out that WITW
was probably written off-trail from other sources and that the author did not
really experience the full extent of what he was writing about. At that point
it is probably in the author's best interest to keep this from becoming too
well known...
