Thanks, anklebear. I live in Fairfax County, VA, the DC 'burbs. The
work is plentiful here (I'm a computer programmer) and the recreation is
not bad either. I feel particularly lucky to live within walking
distance of a lake with a 4 mile trail around it. I've spent a lot of
time there, and explored most of the trails in the county.

I joined the Potomac AT Club last week. I'm proud of my fellow citizens
for volunteering to maintain 1000 miles of trail in these parts. I got
maps covering the 250 mile Tuscarora Trail from them. There's some big
hikes in there: from a 71 mile Massanutten loop to a 500 mile
Tuscallachia loop. I have found Charles Davidson's Tuscarora Photo
Album <http://gallery.backcountry.net/TuscaroraTrail> on this site, and
picked through the correspondence in the archives related to Tuscarora.
So that's my plan: start hiking close to home, and maybe work up to a
thru hike someday.
