For me, having a dump account is not about "paranoia",
it is simply to cut down on spam. It works! My "dump
account" gets a ton o' spam! As I only use it for
sites that demand an e-mail address, it serves its
purpose.

I have three levels of accounts:

The "dump account", to give out for those sites that
demand an actual e-mail address to get any type of
product (the history book club, newspaper sites,
e-cards, etc.)

My public account (this one and mags  at
NOSPAMmagnanti dot com ), need a real account to
correspond with people on a day to day basis.

My "private account", one I seldom give out/use. Keep
it for professional reasons more than anything. Pretty
easy to guess if you know the domain, but since I
never post it publicly, spam bots can not harvest it
to e-mail me.


Anyway, that is what works for me (and many other
people).
