[at-l] Forest Service Fee Parking Lots

The Golden Passport Program is a federal interagency recreation pass
program.

They are accepted at some but not all National Forests, National Parks,
Bureau of Land Management, or US Fish and Wildlife Service recreation
facilities. See: http://www.fs.fed.us/passespermits/passes-intro.shtml or
http://www.fs.fed.us/passespermits/passes-faqs.shtml#q1

In the Statement of Tom Thompson, Deputy Chief, National Forest System,
Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture to the Committee on
Resources, Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health, United States House of
Representatives
on September 17, 2003 concerning Forest Service Recreation Fee Demonstration
Program he said that the USFS would:

"Developed standards for a new fee structure to replace the outdated
entrance and use fees established under the LWCFA. Using the framework of
this new fee structure, in April 2003, the Forest Service dramatically
broadened its application of the Golden Eagle Passport program to provide
expanded interagency application and benefits (Golden Eagle, Age, and Access
Passports are now accepted at over 1500 sites; previously only 18 Forest
Service sites accepted the Golden Eagle passports)."

However, it has been hit-or-miss affair in making available information
about where they are valid, as far as I can see. The HQ stuff reads very
broad application, yet I keep hearing stories about were they were not
accepted.

The Golden Age passport is an NPS program. And if you qualify (all it takes
is being "old"), it's definitely worth it. But I don't know if the Forest
Service honors the Golden Age program. Let me know if you find out - that
would be a new twist that I haven't run into before.
