Where in Ireland did you live? I lived in the southwest for 3 yrs; the
people there love "Yanks", and it was mostly in fun when they said that.
There were a few who meant it in a derogatory way, but the Irish (in fact,
most Europeans) refer to people by their ethnic origins - i.e., Paddy's,
Yanks, Brits, Spannies, etc. Frogs, however, was usually derogatory.
Gypsy
