I suppose you need to do something if you can't get to sleep but a good sleep disorder clinic might be a better idea. ;-) Seriously, Flyin' Brian didn't go all that fast either (MPH-wise). He just did lotsa miles every day by walking longer than the average hiker. When you start doing sleep deprivation and requiring a support team just so you can finish in the least amount of time, that's "nuts".

Think about it.
It's not so much "speed" records as endurance records. On this 300 mile "trail" he's going to take about a week, divided by let's say 6 days is 50 miles a day, divided by 22 hours (per day) is 2.27 miles per hour. That's slower then some thru-hikers I know.
Must be an insomniac! hahaha
