On the Positive side the recent takeover of GNP debt by The Nature
Conservancy may mean TNC  now owns the land!  400,000 acres of timberland.


Thankfully, the land deal was done before the bankruptcy. But TNC will still
have to honor obligations to the eventual controller of Great Northern.
The ripple effect, given the Forestry dependent economy of the region,
will be devastating on a human level. At Christmas the Mill closed for "ten
days," and the scuttlebutt was that the end was near. It was. Shame, too. Two
of the nicest trail maintainers I've ever met worked at that mill.
