[at-l] Kahley's Question, was Maine land prices

Guidestar list or not, I would like to offer one, personallu biased
thought: ANY land trust charity is 100000000% more worhty of your money
than ANY environmental advocacy group, for at least two reasons:

1) With any land trust, your money is buying PERMANENT protection for
REAL, ecologically significant LAND; and

2) No matter how well-intentioned, ALL of the advocacy groups depend in
part on fund-raising techniques that demonize some other segment of
society [i.e., the "corporate polluters," the "tree killers," "the Bush
Republicans," etc.] or - on the other side - the pro-property rights
groups equally demonize the enviro groups . . . all the while, tens of
thousands of local, grass roots land trusts [along with some big veteran
groups, like TNC and the ATC] have sprung up all over this country,
working deals with everyone from poor farmers to the largest
corporations . . .

Land trusts don't sue anybody, and as a general rule they don't badmouth
various groups of people, for they know that, at some point in their
lives, almost everyone becomes ecologically involved and concerned . .
so, find out about local land trusts in your area and get involved in
the greatest win-win movement the "environmental movement" has ever
seen! :)

Thru-Thinker

and, P.S., don't forget the ATC's land trust either - preserving,
protecting and expanding the AT and its viewshed, one acre at a time! :)
