[at-l] Trail Maintenance: Blazing

While doing my thru-hike last year the worse trail blazes I saw were
from the Mass. line up to rt. 9 in Vt. The register in Congdin shelter
had a entry by a hiker named Hoak who had painted the blazes.
Unfortunately he did not understand the system or the proper procedure.
Many blazes were up to a foot long and three inchs long. On small trees
the whole tree was panted around the circumference. They were all poorly
done with paint dripping down the trees and onto the ground. At one
point I could see seven blazes looking down the trail. He claimed to
have maintained this section of trail for some time. It was a discrace.
In my opinion , if you can't do a good job leave it for someone who can.
