Actually, i was able to scan one of them in 4 pieces on a small scanner as 
an experiment (splicing them together afterward was a big hassle). Anyway, 
it said that the map had more than 200,000 colors, I guess because they are 
hand drawn. Lower resolution would probably cut down that number, but it 
would still be a lot...
