[at-l] Maps of the AT.

I have been reading the list concerning the use of maps and trail
guides.  I now have a question.

I think I read about this in one of the thru hikers journals.  They
suggested getting the guides and maps for the trail.  Read the guide
book and take the important information, such as location of water etc.,
and place it on the maps.  Then carry only the maps on the trail.

Has anyone on the list tried this?
