A couple years ago, I was out with all four dogs.
Day two, and I wasn't feeling really well. It was
obviously a day to be, more than hike so I decided
to bush wack straight up the hill rather than take
the trail around and up. It was a poor choice as
my route deteriorated into wet slippery leaves alternating
with loose rubble. About 3/4 way up, we came onto
a deer trail to the left. I couldn't decide whether to
continue up my way or turn off onto the nice deer path.
I really wanted to get up and over and camp on a shoulder
on the other side and i obviously didn't know where the
deer trail led. I sat down to think about it and just moments
later I heard a noise and turned just in time to see the deer
launch itself over me and the four dogs. His hind foot caught
my hat. Too close for comfort by far. Lesson learned about
sitting on a deer trail.
