[at-l] Happy New Year from...

...the great, white South!

'Awakened to a glorious view outside our windows --
snow on the limbs of a huge horse chestnut and lining
all the oaks and tulip poplars behind it, snow
swirling in the breeze, dropping off the branches --
all this, bathed in bright, early sunlight. Amazing!
Cat set only one paw out the door before retracting it
in haste, leaving a lone pawprint in the pristine,
white powder! Spur's out there now, shoveling, while
I'm inside, sipping hot cocoa and reading at-l! Good
life, eh?! ;-)

'Sure is easing my "missing the North" blues seeing
all this snow! Who knew Atlanta could look like this?!

Spur and I wanted to be back on the AT to see out the
old year and ring in the new one. 'Had a nice time at
Springer over New Year's despite the chill. Dee, POG,
Vera, Sloetoe, Hammockhanger, Nimblewill Nomad -- 'so
good to have that time together. 'Finally met Dave
Addleton, Coosa, and Sawman & DownFall. Several others
were there, non-listers: (Not to Worry), a father
(Cameron) with his two boys, and 2 thruhikers, Matt
(had started Dec. 26) and Boston Dave (a PCT'er
starting his AT thru on 1/1/02). [Sawman took some
photos: http://www.hobocentral.com if you want to see
them. ] Just as we were leaving in the morning, a crew
of volunteers arrived to install bear cables at the
shelter site. You'll find it (to the left) along the
blueblazed trail approaching the shelter. Hiking out,
we took a brief detour up the Benton MacKaye Trail to
see the new plaque installed there. Very nice
indeedy.

I signed back onto the list yesterday and will try to
keep up with all the posts. 'Good to see all the
familiar names, as well as the new ones! 'Can't wait
for the Rucks -- 'will be seeing so many of you then!

Ready
