[at-l] Re: Food weight

It is considered an approximation of how much food a person needs to eat per day assuming most foods
you carry average 100 calories per ounce. Some people carry more and some less. The amount you carry
is gretly affected by what you choose to eat and your metabolism.

For example, if you carry bagels instead of say tortilla flats they'll weigh you down more for about
the same amount of calories. Peanut butter and jelly has moer bang for the ounce than most things,
but how much can you stomach.

You want to pick foods you like and that will give you the energy you need. Foods with plenty of
carbs and fat are important. Protien rich foods are alright but less crucial than you might think.
There are plenty of good resources on what you can eat when on long hiking trips. This topic comes
up year after year here so you ought to be able to find some just be searching the archives.

When you buy food read those nutrition labels. They're your friends.
