I compromised with the Orange one (I wonder how I got that idea). 

It is close to the red to perserve night vision, allows some reading
and shoots a beam far enough to avoid nocturnal face plants. I also
carry a Tikka for more substantial light, but as soon as cooking is
done, the Photon is the most I use.
