Trail39 suggests that I include more info about my contact with the
British Army :) in SNP, so here is what I wrote to him by way of a bit
more detail...

That does sound VERY interesting. There are a number of people on the
list who are ex military. You should have said more.

Probably should have included more info.. :)
They were there on sort of a training event. The British Army has a
number of collateral training opportunities, these would be activities
that are related, but indirectly, to their primary military mission.
One of these is "trekking." They can go on a trek, or extended hike,
as
a training drill. These guys were spending 12 days backpacking
through
SNP. They say its really not any more expensive to come to the US
than
anywhere in Europe. Britain itself doesn't have this kind of extended
trekking opportunity.
Anyway, it was fun being with them.
