[at-l] "Endurance" etc. was Speaking of Shackleton...

I read "Endurance" in North Georgia at night before I
would go to sleep last December. I decided I was
complaining too much about the cold, so I bought a
copy of "Endurance" at NOC and started reading.
Somehow I thought that reading about being stranded in
the Antarctic would make me feel warmer. Or at least
tougher. :)

If you enjoy books like "Endurance," (who doesn't?),
check out "In the Heart of the Sea" by Nathaniel
Philbrick. This is the story of the whale ship
"Essex," which was attacked by a giant sperm whale,
and how the survivors eked out a life in the following
90+ days. Not all survived as in the amazing story of
Shackleton. I read this book last week and couldn't
put it down.

I thought the whole story sounded like a great idea
for a novel. So did Herman Melville. :)
