[at-l] Statistics---

A friend sent me a copy of the Sept., 2001, Northwest Airlines World
Traveler magazine because it contains an article about the AT. The article
focuses on GSMNP. The teaser line at the beginning of the article says,
"Hiking Tennessee's 71-mile portion of the Appalachian Trail takes guts,
stamina and a healthy respect for snakes and bears." Where did this author
(Jane Ammeson) get the statistic of Tennessee having 71 miles of the AT?
And who gets to claim all those miles that are right on the NC/TN state
line? anklebear
