WHOOOOOOPPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He did it!!! By 3:00 this afternoon Jon had climbed up and back down Mt.
Katahdin; he finished his thru-hike!!!! He went up this morning with three
others, a father (mid 40's) and son (20ish), and a fellow from Minnesota
whose trail name is the same as the name of the soccer ball in the Tom
Hanks'
movie Castaway--doggone if I can remember it now. The four of them by-passed
the cheap Daicy Pond campground yesterday evening and opted to all share a
more expensive site at the base of Katahdin.

After coming back down this afternoon, he and some other fellow got a quick
hitch to Millinocket with a couple of Canadians. He's holed up at the AT
Lodge. Tomorrow's plans include laundry, a haircut, moving his digs to a
motel, and buying a bottle of champagne. Strange, he doesn't really like
champagne all that much...of course, it's my idea of the nectar of the gods.
Hmmmmmmm......

almost packed,
Joan
