[at-l] MArch Forth trip Report - Day 7

Excellent description and why I was so worried and quick to decide
whether to get help. Frankly, red urine would have me call for a
chopper quicker than any of the experiences during the blizzard up in
the Smokies. You let your situation go a bit further than I was willing
to do. Unfortunately, protein just doesn't dialyze very well with
either your kidneys or dialysis machines. Either hydration plus
diuretics get the kidneys working, or the hydration sets up cardiac
failure and multisystems failure - leading to death.

There was an excellent pearl I heard at the conference - "Beware of the
'Umbles'. When people mumble, grumble, stumble or bumble, they are in
serious trouble." These are excellent descriptions of delirium and loss
of motor control that is common among many thermal and hydration
insults. When these occur, it is important for the hiker's partners to
recognize the symptoms and take control of the situation.
