The Park Service doesn't plow, salt, or clear parts of the BRP unless there
are private property owners with deeded access to the section.  If no such
deeded access exists, they'll close the section until the snow, ice,
whatever goes away.  Portions of it were closed for months between I64 and
VA56 after the ice storm a couple of years ago.

A friend and I went hiking this past weekend north of the James River.  We
day hiked 3 days from the James River to Fish Hatchery Road.  We wanted to
hike from Apple Orchard Mt. but the Blueridge Parkway was closed at the top
of the mountain.  Anybody know why?  We had some beautiful days and looks
like we got out just before the storm hit.
