the stove I used was made from a tuna can. I put tent stakes up around it
to hold the pot. Kept the alcohol in a soda bottle.

I carried the entire thing. When I met section hikers or past thru-hikers
on my trip and they told me "When you get to so-and-so, you MUST stay
here..." I could flip to that page and mark it down so I wouldn't forget.
Of course, it's all based on your priorities. I didn't carry a map and
ended up ditching my filter to ride the giardia express (and thankfully
never got sick). So it's really a personal preference.

I suggest that you deal with the 5-9 ozs because nothing beats being able to
wash that stinky pair of shorts in the stream while you wear your fresh
clean pair. I had pants that had zip-off legs to make shorts, and carried
two pairs the whole time.

I don't think you need two t-shirts, but it's good to have one. I carried a
t-shirt, a tank top & a polypro long sleeve, so I could have the perfect
shirt for any occasion. The tank top was used only for the summer months,
and there was a month or so when I hiked in a dress, but then it fell
apart....
