[at-l] Yet another newbie emerges from lurk-dom

What's up people? Since everyone else is climbing out of the woodwork
and introducing themselves, thought I'd join the crowd. Name's Jeremy, and
I'm planning a nobo thruhike sometime early in 2001, after I'm done with
school in December 2000. Hey, all my life I've been doing what you're
supposed to do: get a degree, get a job, wipe your nose, etc. Well when I'm
done with school, I'm doing what I want for a change! Nobody, not even the
student loan payment collectors, are gonna stop me (or wipe my nose).
Hiking the AT is something that has appealed to me for a while, and one
of the main attractions to me is the experience of doing it by myself.
Hopefully there's still enough wilderness out there that I can find a little
peace and quiet, cause I could really use. One of my big fears is that,
coming north out of SNP, the AT by the time I hike it will go thru Northern
Va Sprawl, the way it's been growing (ugh). I don't know if I have what it
takes to finish it, but I'd sure like to find out.
I'm glad there's a nice, friendly group of knowledgable people on this
list that I can talk to about the issues that will be raised in the coming
year as I plan the hike. I appreciate much and hope you can field the
onslaught of worry and questions that I surely shall barrage you with.
For starters, how early in the year could one reasonably expect to start
a thru hike from Springer Mt.? I really would rather not have to deal with
massive amounts of people if it's not absolutely neccessary. Is it
reasonable to try to start in February?
Thanks a lot fellas, nice to meet y'all!
    Word up,
    Jeremy
P.S. Don't even ask about a gear list just yet... :-)
