[at-l] Alcohol stove question

Is there a reason that the fuel-holding part of the alcohol stove needs
to be so big? Couldn't any metal container big enough to hold enough
fuel to cook with work? (i.e. a large metal cap or something.) Just
seems like a lot of wasted air space, and therefore weight. ( No, the
air doesn't weigh anything. But the container does...)
