[pct-l] Fees in Resorts

Reading a few post on resorts adding fees to hiker boxes and had a few thoughts. While adding fees to hiker boxes is not right, it is still nice that they offer that service. In the days when only one or two dozen hikers a year walked though. It was not a big deal to handle all they packages and store them to boot. Problems get bigger if they have to handle and store 300 boxes in their Post Office the size of a bus stop. Most back country resorts aren't getting rich in the process of running their summer business and their fees, insurance, and rules and getting steeper each year . Profit margins are slim. It could be in a few years and increased use by thru-hikers , they may no longer offer to take packages. In would be a much different trip if Kennedy Meadows stopped taking our boxes. Bottom line, OLR lied and should have been upfront or the employee was a rip off.. Most thru-hikers are not rich and five dollars could go a long ways for better uses . BUT two sides to the coin and it is nice to have Ollie Lake Resort to hold our boxes in a safe covered area of their business.
