[pct-l] Yogi's Book

First, fair disclosure time: Yogi is a dear friend of
mine from the PCT in 2002, I contributed to her book,
and I think she is a wonderful person.

Having said all that:

1) PDF vs. BOOK: Personally, for books I want to
read, mark up, take notes on etc. prefer something
printed.

Other than quick research, I do not like reading off a
computer screen. There is something about print form
that is just much easier to read (at least for me).
If there is something I enjoy reading online, I'll
often print it out anyway. Other people I know do the
same thing. As a side note, I am not exactly a
technophobe. Have been online since 1986 with 300
baud modem,a C= 64 (remember those?!!?!?!) and using
BBSes. (Yes, I know people on this list have been
using this stuff longer..but it still means I've been
a geek since I was 12! :D) Also pay the bills doing
techie stuff. Just prefer old fashioned print books
for things I want to savor.

2) Yogi making a buck: She is not getting rich off the
book. As she said, she is losing money. It is a labor
of love. If she was to start making a few bucks that
would still be OK. Less time I checked it is OK for
people to make a little money on a service they are
provinding esp. if it is done at a fair price.
(psst! Yogi: Have you thought of "print on demand"
book? Ala www.cafepress.com? LEss overhead, you setup
your own store, people buy the books from the website,
less work on your part, etc.)

3) Contributors: Many of us (myself included) did
contribute. But the bulk of the work and words were
done by Yogi. We were were helpful in showing
different view points but hardly made the whole book.
We received no money from the book. For an hour or so
of our time, we get the satisfaction of helping out
many in a community we love. (Though, I feel bad about
hikers who took my advice. :D) Also get to help out a
person whom I shared a gallon of cheap strawberry ice
cream with in Skyquolamie Meadows (Ya had to be
there!).
